What are Source of Funds (SoF) and Source of Wealth (SoW)?

In crypto asset trading, proving the legitimacy of your funds is crucial — it's a key step to ensuring compliance and transparency. An individual's source of funds generally falls into two categories: "Source of Funds (SoF)" and "Source of Wealth (SoW)":

1. Source of Funds (SoF)

Source of Funds refers to where the money you use for OKX trading comes from — for example, personal salary income, proceeds from selling assets, borrowed funds, gifts from others, or funds transferred from your other exchanges or wallets. If you have multiple funding sources, select the one you most recently and primarily used to deposit funds. Please note: if you used a specific sum of money to purchase crypto assets from someone else, you should provide proof of the source of that money — not the other party's asset information or your account deposit records.Examples:

  • If the funds you transferred to the platform came from your personal salary, you can select Employment Income and submit supporting documents such as a formal employment contract or payslip.

  • If the funds came from the sale of a property, you can select Non-Crypto Asset Sale and submit the property sale agreement or tax documents for verification.

  • If you purchased 100 USDT through OKX P2P trading using your salary, you only need to select Employment Income as your source of funds.

2. Source of Wealth (SoW)

Source of Wealth refers to how you accumulated your primary personal wealth and net assets — or the origin of your overall personal assets. This is typically built up through employment, business ownership, investment, or inheritance. Examples:

  • If you have multiple income streams but salary makes up the largest portion of your personal wealth, you only need to select Employment Income as your source of wealth.

Why do I need to provide proof of Source of Funds and Source of Wealth?

OKX is committed to creating a healthy and secure trading environment for all users. Ensuring the legitimacy of funds in your account is essential. As part of our account security measures, we may ask you to provide, update, or supplement your account information. If you receive a prompt from the platform, simply follow the instructions to complete the process. Please also note that this verification is not a review of any specific deposit or transaction — its primary purpose is to complete your account profile.
